For believers, the relationship with the Trinity begins with Jesus. In the disciples’ case, Jesus came to tell them the rest of the story, since they had a Jewish background. They had been expecting the messiah to physically deliver the Jews from Roman oppression, and they believed Jesus would do that for them. What they didn’t know was they got it half right: Jesus was and is the messiah, but He brought spiritual deliverance as opposed to physical deliverance from Roman oppression.

The disciples got to experience Jersus first hand, each had the kind of closeness with Jesus they wanted (it varied depending on personality and individual comfort zones), and they did what He told them to be and do with the notable exception of Judas Iscariot.
